Dear Diary,
This morning, I hosted an event at Mere Green Library. Heather and the team had done a brilliant job of getting the word out about my visit, and we had children and their parents (and grandparents) continuing to arrive throughout the session right up until the very end.
Luckily, the children’s section at this library is lovely and spacious. But even so, we were bursting at the seams at one point, as we continued to take over another table, then another!
Among all the wonderful children who came along, I got to meet Christopher, who’d already started reading one of my books a few days prior to my event… and picked up signed copies of both WARNING: Magic Can Be Dangerous! and WARNING: May Contain Dragons on the day!!!
He and everyone else who attended got stuck into my activities with gusto. There were some super book cover designs dreamt up, including Diana’s entitled WARNING: Teachers May Be Dangerous and Rhys’ entitled WARNING: May Contain Secrets.
And as well as designing a book cover, Sophia came up with a blurb, an opening sentence, and an excerpt for her story.
Blurb: Parents are meant to lead by example, but what ACTUALLY happens behind closed doors?
Opening sentence: Get out of bed, brush your teeth, get dressed, have your breakfast, go, go, go!
But she must have been able to read my mind, as the title she came up for her warning about parents was very similar to the title I have in mind for the fourth book in my Words of WARNING collection… about teachers!
There were some fantastic comic strips created, including Donald’s entitled Dragons’ Dungeon, in which a brave knight was ordered to slay a dragon!
And Emily wrote a hilarious piece under the Vegetarian Vampire character prompt, which I absolutely loved:
This is a vampire. A vegetarian vampire. So, don’t be scared. This vampire doesn’t want to suck your blood. It would much rather be drinking a cup of lemonade.
But watch out, scream and shout, for his brother will be there, trying to get you, trying to find you, without any care. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! So, BEWARE!
As I was packing up, Posy arrived to join in with the fun. She was so chatty that I found it hard to tear myself away. But with another library visit booked in for the afternoon, it was sadly time for me to leave.
After missing out on so many photo opportunities because of how busy this session was, I’m pleased to at least have a few snaps of the morning, thanks to Heather sending over the photos she took. (I’m still on the lookout for a travelling photographer to take along to future events!!!) Despite not having many photos, I’ll always treasure the memories of this visit. And I can’t wait to return to Mere Green Library next year, once WARNING: Grandma’s Gone Bonkers has been published!
