Minehead Library

Friday August 22nd 2025

Dear Diary,

My second of three library visits today was to Minehead Library. Having not left myself much turnaround time after my earlier visit to Porlock Community Library, it was a bit of a mad dash to get there, park, and get set up. But it was lovely to see a number of children reading in the Children’s Section when I arrived. And what a beautiful Children’s Section it is! Light floods into the area, which is filled with a bright and charming array of furniture, display stands, and bookshelves. And I was lucky enough to have over a dozen young bookworms joining me in there for activities over the next couple of hours.

Among them was Quinn, who created a book cover for the title WARNING: Bunnie Are Evil! and began plotting and writing the story:

Blurb: Ella’s bunny has started to be cheeky. But after a few days, Ella finds out her bunny is evil!!! Her bunny is trying to take over the world… one step at a time.

Opening sentence: One rainy Wednesday afternoon, Ella went to clean her bunny out. But it was not there!

Excerpt: “No, Bernard, put that taser down!” Ella shouted.

Eva and Margot did some lovely colouring, producing beautifully bright covers for WARNING: May Contains Dragons:

Izzy, who’s a very talented artist, produced a comical comic strip entitled My Dragon Ate My Homework:

And right at the end of the session, Maddie created an imaginative monster character named Michael:

Certificates went flying out whilst I was there. And I had a super time with everyone who came along, chatting about WARNING: Magic Can Be Dangerous! and WARNING: May Contain Dragons, getting some ideas for future stories, and hearing what books were firm favourites with each of the attendees. But before too long, it was time for me to pack up my author trolley and head off for my third library visit of the day.
