Harborne Library

Wednesday August 27th 2025

Dear Diary,

I spent a wonderful day at Harborne Library today. This library only has a small frontage, but the building itself is huge… and the children’s section has a whole floor to itself!!! I couldn’t believe how busy it was in there from the moment I arrived until the moment I left, with children continuing to pop in for a book, take part in the treasure hunt, and join in with my activities throughout the day. We had two massive tables surrounded by as many stools as would fit, but we still kept running out of room and having to spread out throughout the entire children’s section!

One of the Alfie’s who attended (I think we had three Alfies in total) did some super colouring:

… so did William, Elsie, Rida, Carys, Nyra, Kian, Austin, and Alice.

Someone whose name sadly escapes me drew a superb picture of a golden dragon who breathes fire containing golden shards.

Eliza wrote a brilliant opening for a story about a time-travelling librarian:

Lucy Brown was a librarian. She loved books. In fact, she loved books so much that she secretly…
No, I won’t tell you that yet. But I will tell you this: she could travel through time!
One night, after she had snuck…
No, no, NO! I am spoiling it. AGAIN. I am new to this author thingy after all, I keep forgetting…

Emilia drew a beautiful book cover:

And Sonam produced a lovely comic strip:

But sadly, I can’t remember all of the other wonderful work that was produced, as I didn’t get the chance to take many photos OR take any notes!!!

Of all the work created, I think Emily’s story written under the title My Teacher Is a Dragon was my favourite piece:

I may have been the only one to notice.
I don’t think I was, though.
It was unmistakable. Obvious. Clear as day. After all, dragons aren’t good at concealing themselves. You wouldn’t be if you were a massive, scaly, fire-breathing reptile. Though, somehow, it was the last day of term before Easter when I discovered this dragon-sized secret.
Everyone knows that teachers sleep in store cupboards…

Definitely a future author in the making, along with Eliza!

I must also give a special mention to Daniel and his sister Francesca, who stayed for absolutely ages and worked through all number of activities. They were so polite, wonderful to chat with, and really helpful with all the other attendees.

I had such a super time at Harborne Library, and I can’t wait to return next year with WARNING: Grandma’s Gone Bonkers!
