Heron Primary

Thursday February 26th 2026

The pupils at Heron Primary were giddy with excitement when I arrived for my free school visit with WARNING: Grandma’s Gone Bonkers today. And it wasn’t long before their excitability rubbed off on me, leading to a very lively… but utterly lovely… day!!! It’s clear that this school really pushes reading for pleasure, as so many of the pupils were keen readers and adept writers. They came up with some fantastic stories, poems, songs, raps, and diary entries during my workshops, were all keen to read their work aloud, and so many of them stopped me in the corridors throughout the day to ask me questions or suggest future books I should write in the Words of WARNING collection. The teachers joined in so wholeheartedly during every session, too – I LOVE it when that happens! In fact, the atmosphere around the school was electric from the moment I was welcomed inside until the moment I left. Thank you, Mrs Castle, for inviting me along for the day and for organising everything so efficiently. Thank you to all the pupils and teachers for so many wonderful memories. And huge thanks to all the parents, pupils, and teachers who queued for books at the end of the day. (We were so lucky that the rain held off until shortly before I left!) I hope you all enjoy my stories, and I also hope to return to Heron with book 4 next year!!!
