Dear Diary,
Today’s visit was to Crewkerne Library, where I took over the whole of the mezzanine floor! With children and their parents continuing to arrive from the moment I’d set up right up until it was time for me to leave, the session was over in a flash. And it was lovely to see full tables throughout, with some of the attendees even staying for the whole time I was there.
Everyone did a fantastic job colouring in my book covers and illustrating covers of their own. We had stories including The Time-Travelling Tomato, Detective Buk, and A Dragon Ate My Homework. And William really went to town. He started off with some written hints on how to train your dragon to do your homework. Then he created a book cover for a story entitled The Golden Gran, which he went on to produce a whole comic strip for!

Along with William’s masterpieces, I especially loved Joscelyn’s poems:
My Dragon Won’t Fit in the Bath
My dragon won’t fit in the bath,
I don’t know what to do,
I tried to wash him thoroughly,
But now he’s eating my shoe.
He’s knocked over the shower stand,
And cracked the sink in half,
But I love him more than anything,
Even if he STILL won’t fit in the bath.
My Teacher Is a Dragon
My teacher is a dragon,
I found out yesterday,
I glimpsed her scaly tail,
And that’s what gave it away.
My eyes grew round and wide,
My fingers and toes went numb,
And I swear I saw, poking out of her mouth,
A sinister, black forked tongue…
I think it’s safe to say my dragons went down a storm with both the attendees and the librarians – many of whom purchased copies of both WARNING: Magic Can Be Dangerous! and WARNING: May Contain Dragons in order to get their hands on a new pet.
But in no time at all – and with my certificate stash looking decidedly depleted – it was time for me to pack up my author trolley and head to another library.
I had a great time at Crewkerne Library with everyone who attended, and I hope to return for some more fun next year with WARNING: Grandma’s Gone Bonkers.
