Tewkesbury Primary

Monday July 7th 2025

Dear Diary,

It was an absolute pleasure to return to Tewkesbury Primary today. I first visited last November, and had the honour of joining the headteacher in officially reopening the library at the end of the day (after it had sadly been destroyed by torrential rain a couple of months earlier). So, it was lovely to be greeted by the headteacher on arrival this morning… along with the fabulous Mrs Tonkin, who looked after me so well all day long!

There’s something a little magical about this school, and I think it might have something to do with the way the pupils sing their hearts out during morning worship. Nothing is guaranteed to put a smile on your face quite like hearing these angels belt out a song. And today, I was treated to ‘The River Deep’.

Despite being totally worn out, after a busy run of school visits lately, I think I managed to pull my assembly off without a hitch. There was plenty of audience participation throughout, and I’ll never tire of hearing gasps when a copy of WARNING: May Contain Dragons mysteriously appears out of the top of my giant revolving book prop!!!

Last year, I hosted workshops for the older pupils, so it was great to focus on the younger pupils this time around and spend time with Year 2 and Year 3. And it was an added bonus to hear from their teachers that a number of pupils who wouldn’t normally get stuck into writing tasks really impressed them with the work they produced during these sessions.

I’m a little behind with my school visit write-ups, so I’ll sadly have to wrap this up. But not before I’ve mentioned Tiffany, who won a dragon for her super letter to her best friend (and English isn’t even her first language!):

… Victoria, who wrote a brilliant diary entry AND a story:

… Hannah, who wrote some super dialogue:

… Oscar, who told us all about dragon and zombie farts:

… and Lilly, who wrote a fabulous tale about a dragon teacher:

I always feel so welcome at Tewkesbury Primary, and I hope to return there again and again, for many years to come!
